    2019 Pearce Trophy

    Wickersley CI BC held its first club bowls trophy competition took place on Sunday 28th April.

    The Pearce trophy, a mixed doubles competition, attracted over 30 competitors and was run on a round robin format. The winners from each round robbin group playing in the final.

    The finalists were Pat Burton and Phil Green playing against Gloria Stocks and John Hague. A closely fought final, over 12 ends saw Gloria and John triumph.

    The weather for the day was a chilly wind with periods of warm sunshine but remained dry for the whole time

    It was a really good day out for all the competitors and spectators and it was good to see so many new members taking part. Once again an excellent buffet lunch was provided by club members.

  • The Turkey Trot

    The Turkey Trot Competition

    The Club held its annual Turkey Trot competition on Sunday September 30th.

    Seventeen pairs entered this doubles competition and competed in two round robbin groups, with the winners of each group going through to the final.

    In the final Jenny Shaw and Mark Andrews played against Barry Shaw and Barbara Michaels, so a good Christmas dinner was guaranteed in the Shaw household. In a close final Jenny and Mark eventually came out on top.

    In this competition the group runners-up compete for third and fourth place, and meat vouchers. In this match Pat Burton and George Wardle triumphed over Mavis Green and Chris Michaels.

    In spite of the day starting out cool and getting colder during the afternoon, but staying dry, the competition was very well supported by spectators.

    At lunchtime forty-five club members sat down for the traditional pie & peas followed by deserts provided by our lady members.

  • Vets Merits

    Rotherham Retired Persons Bowling Association

    Sixteen pairs started the 2018 Rotherham Vets Doubles Merit competition held on Monday 24th September hosted by Kings Bowling Club, Wath,

    Three Wickersley CI couples started the competition ; Mavis & Phil Green, Jenny & Barry Shaw and Jill & John Fisher.

    The Greens and Fishers were both knocked out in the early rounds but the Shaws overcome some very stiff opposition the reach the final, in which they played Geoff Ball and Paul Rayleigh of our close rivals Wickersley Village Bowling Club. Goeff and Paul started off well and were up 8 to 1 before Jenny and Barry won the jack again and came back strongly to win the close match 21 to 18.

  • The Hasnip Shield

    Hasnip Trophy

    Wickersley CI Bowling held their annual Men's singles trophy competition for the Hasnip trophy last weekend. The event is a knockout competition and it attracted 14 entries. The final was between Philip Green and Michael Gregory with Philip winning 21 - 15.

  • Cook Trophy

    The Joe Cook Trophy

    Cook trophy at Wickersley CI Bowling Club The trophy is one of the clubs annual doubles completions and this year it took place on Sunday 9th September. The two pairs who won through to the final were Alan Thickett with Shirley Hitchings and David Pickersgill with Jill Fisher.

    Alan and Shirley took an early lead and even the late rally by David and Jill could not prevent them winning 14 - 3.
